Coronavirus Updates – Death Toll, Countermeasures, And More

With more than 259 people dead and 11,791 infected in China alone, Coronavirus outbreak has now spread over 20 countries. More casualties and cases are being reported on an hourly basis around the world. The governments from all around the globe are taking immediate countermeasures to contain the situation, banning travel to China and initiating evacuation measures for their citizens.

Here are the latest updates from around the globe:


Israelis who have been to China recently have been asked to quarantine themselves in their homes for two weeks, with bans from non-citizens to enter the country via neighbouring Jordan and Egypt.


Starting February 2, Russia has suspended all visa-free travel to and from China, along with evacuation procedures underway for Russians stuck in China. A temporary ban on Chinese citizens from getting work visas is also being implemented.


Starting Monday, all flights to mainland China have been suspended until further notice.


The state airline is suspending flights to and from China, with the option for citizens to return via chartered planes-except from Wuhan.


Evacuation procedures for 250 students living in Wuhan are underway.


Turkmenistan Airlines has suspended flights to and from Beijing.


Flights to and from China have been banned temporarily, as stated by the Iranian Vice President Eshaq Jahangiri, with the nation reporting no confirmed cases of the Coronavirus till now.


Vietnam Airlines is implementing a ban on all flights to and from China, Hing Kong, and Taiwan until further notice. The country will also not issue visas for foreign visitors having been to China in the past 14 days.


With 316 Bangladeshis already evacuated from Wuhan, the country has quarantined the infected for two weeks to contain the outbreak.


The government spokeswoman Narumon Pinyosinwat has stated that as per their data, there are 182 Thais in China at the moment, and they will be evacuated “in a matter of days,” likely after February 2.



The 250 Indonesians being evacuated from the Hubei province will be quarantined at the Natuna Islands military base.


The Australian prime minister Scott Morrison stated that only “Australian citizens, Australian residents, dependents, legal guardians or spouses” will be allowed back into the country from China, and “Those that do return will be required to go into self-isolation for 14 days.”


324 Indian nationals have returned to New Delhi from the Hubei province. They will be quarantined for two weeks, under the care of the local health authorities.


Turkey has successfully evacuated 42 citizens from Wuhan.


The UK government has stated that support for British nationals from within China from the British Embassy and Consulates might be limited, under the current circumstances.


The United States government has banned entry for foreigners who have been to China in the past two weeks, with returning Americans being quarantined and advised to undertake two weeks of self-screening to avoid risk.


The Health Ministry of Spain has reported the country’s first case of Coronavirus-a man who was diagnosed on the remote island of La Gomera in the Canaries.


The Japanese government has classified Coronavirus as a designated infectious disease-with compulsory hospitalization, stricter screening of people entering the country, and the use of public funds for treatment.


Having already ordered more than 200 million masks from Turkish medical firms over the last two weeks, China has asked the European Union for immediate medical support.
